4 Easy Tips To a More Nutritious PB&J For Your Kiddos

 Does anyone else cringe when the pediatrician asks how your kids are eating? I know I can’t be the only one with incredibly picky eaters. I wanted to share a few tips I have learned along the way to maximize nutrition in our staple PB&J sandwich. I wanted to share these tried and true tips with you here:

 1.Skip The White Bread- Yes, I realize that nutritious ingredients only count if your child ACTUALLY eats them. My kids are not fans of whole wheat but if your kids are the same, that doesn’t mean you have to serve them white bread. We found Arnold Organic White Made with Whole Wheat Bread and it has the soft and smooth texture they love with the nutrition I want them to be getting. The bread is plant-based, USDA organic, Non-GMO project verified and provides good sources of Vitamins A, D and E. I also love how sustainable the baking process is. 2.Opt For Jam Not Jelly- Jam has a far higher fruit concentrate than jelly so it’s packed with more nutrition and real fruit in each bite. Looking for a low sugar jam is always the best and my kids can never tell the difference!

3.Grab a Natural Peanut Butter- You might be surprised at the added ingredients you can find in your peanut butter.  Grabbing a natural peanut butter makes a big difference and it’s also important to read the sugar content on the labels. You can compare brands to find one with less added sugar.

4. Get your kids involved- My kids are way more inclined to ACTUALLY EAT there lunch if they feel invested in making it. It might a bit messy but give your kids (if they are old enough AND with supervision) a knife and the jar of peanut butter and jelly. Even an older two year old can spread ingredients with a bit of help and moms guidance. It helps give kids a sense of autonomy and accomplishment to learn to make their own lunch. Letting them cut out fun shapes from the bread with cookie cutters is another way to get them engaged in the process and my girls love eating the discarded bread pieces.
