The Affordable Luxury Hotel And Farm to Table Dining You Need to Check Out This Valentines Day

The Affordable Luxury Hotel And Farm to Table Dining You Need to Check Out This Valentines Day

Valentine’s day is just around the corner so I feel the need to ask, when is the last time you spent a night away with your spouse? For the longest time my husband and I would barely make it out to dinner on Valentines day no less a night away. With two kids and no family nearby it always seemed like climbing Mt. Everest just to get away. The truth is it sometimes does feel that way, but few things are more important to carve time out for than your marriage. I have come to realize the more challenging it feels to get away, the more we likely need it. To be honest, we celebrated a month early simply because that was the weekend we could get childcare. The important thing is we got there and let me tell you, I could not be more thankful.

When we arrived at the Delamar in Southport Connecticut I instantly fell in love with the classic New England charm. The rooms had a bright and very luxurious feel (despite being very reasonably priced! Rooms start at only $219!). The location itself is a short hop from Southport’s adorable down town that’s laden with cozy bakeries, charming shops and restaurants brimming with character.  It’s about an hour and a half from NYC via the train, making it the perfect city escape and It’s drivable from anywhere in CT for a night away. Upon our arrival we were given a tour of the hotel and we were able to see some of the different room options available. I was amazed that each room seemed to have it’s own unique feel and hand selected décor. Every room was tastefully decorated with a luxurious boutique feel.

After we settled in it started to snow so we decided to just relax with a bottle of wine and read by the hand crafted fireplace they had brought in all the way from Switzerland. To say our afternoon was relaxing was an understatement. We then got ready for an early dinner at Artisan, their in house Farm-to-table restaurant. Our meal was out of this world. We started with lobster waldorf and a burrata and beet salad. Our appetizers were followed by a delicious cut of steak (my husband swears it was the best he has ever had) and hand rolled gnocci and mushroom entrée. I am not sure how its possible bu every bite was better than the last. After dinner we relaxed with desert cocktails (they have an extensive hand crafted cocktail menu), an apple rose tarte with blue berry sauce and a carmel cheese cake. Everything from the cozy abmiance and unique flavor combinations, to the perfectly presented dishes was more than I could have imagined for our dinner.

The following morning we enjoyed a delicious complimentary breakfast laden with eggs, bacon, potatos, pasteries, oatmeal and all the fresh fruit you could eat. After eating my weight in breakfast fare I headed to the Delamar spa for a 60 minute massage. I have to say that the spa at the Delamar is worth the trip in and of itself. I have had many massages in my lifetime but this was one of the most relaxing hours I have ever spent on a massage table. I have found that since having children there are few things I enjoy more than relaxing with an hour massage. You would truly be missing so much if you visit the Delamar and don’t explore their spa menu.

If you are still looking for the perfect place to get away for Valentines day (or better yet, surprise your spouse with a night away!) I could not recommend the Delamar more. They have a special offer right now that you can find out more about HERE. If a true night away is not feasible then a romantic dinner at the Artisan (they also have a location in West Hartford) is a must! It is the kind of dining that is more than a meal but truly creates a memorable experience that you will always look back on. I know you will enjoy the Delamar and all it has to offer as much as we did!
